Details: By boat or by foot - it's well worth a visit to Cathedral Cove, noted as one of the best beaches in the Coromandel. Swim, snorkel, kayak or just sit on the sand and admire the wonderful views. Caves, rock arches, a marine reserve and an unspoilt bay await. You can walk to the car park from Hahei Beach (head left up the western end of the beach) or drive up Grange Road. Park at the car park, wander the boardwalks. A nice walk with a steep descent to Cathedral Cove. From there you can easily walk further to the neighbouring bays of Gemstone Bay and Stingray Bay. The walk takes about 2 hours return. Bring your swimming gear (although no life guards at this remote spot so be mindful of the surf) and your snorkeling gear. For visitor information and latest track conditions, check the DOC link. Check the weather forecast too before you head out. We Reckon | Bring it on Coromandel! Do bring a picnic lunch as when you get there, you'll want to spend all day. There's a rock "platform" around 75 metres from shore (if you're a confident swimmer) great for jumping off. The beach has relatively new "long drop toilets, with a fabulous view. A beautiful spot indeed. Not far out of the headlines either, read our blog.
