At Wenderholm Regional Park, there's heaps of room to run about, ride your bikes and sheltered grounds for picnics.  Expect safe swimming, sandy beaches and gentle estuary for paddling.

Bring your cricket bat or soccer ball, or strap a kayak onto the roof rack.  Wenderholm Regional Park with all its walks, large grassy areas and beaches is a perfect way to spend a few hours, or the full day.

Check out Couldrey House for a glimpse into yesteryear (open to the public on weekends, 1-4pm), or explore the several walking tracks. Depending on how much time you have 15mins or 2.5 hours, there are several to get you out and about and enjoy the scenery.
  • Couldrey House Lookout Walk – approx 15 minutes, 0.6kms. You’ll find the start of the track near the pouwhenua near Couldrey House. Expect a relatively steep climb to the top and be rewarded with views of the Puhoi Estuary and Couldrey House itself.
  • Te Akeake Walk – approx 30 minutes, 1km. This is an unmarked trail, starting from the carpark. Head north along the beach and you’ll end at the sandspit headland, then return alongside the river bank.
  • Maungatauhoro Te Hikoi Loop track – approx 90 minutes, 2.9km. Starts near Couldrey House by the carving– a great opportunity to see some rare birds as you stroll and some gracious views.
  • Perimeter Loop Track – approx 2.5 hours, 4.6km return. This is a great one, taking you around Maungatauhoro then down to Kokoru Bay on Waiwera Etuary. It is steep in parts and along the way, there is some unformed track. So, be sensible and wear appropriate shoes (and you may want to walk back via the bridge and road, or the rocky shore line - as you have to get back to your car somehow!)

Keep an eye on the tides as when you run of shore, the cliffs are too steep to use as refuge.

We Reckon | What a great place for families!  Bring your BBQ, picnic blanket and games (frisbee, cricket bat or beach volleyball net) and you'll have a great time. For more information or to reserve a bookable site check the Auckland City Council webpage.
